You will find a good selection of leaflets in the apartment for gardens, castles and many other places of interest, including Ordnance Survey maps and ideas for local walks. Alnwick Castle is of course portrayed as Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films. Visit this wonderful castle and walk beneath the airspace where the Quidditch match was battled and won by Harry. The Alnwick Garden is a 5 minute walk from Bailiffgate, through the castle grounds. The interactive Bailiffgate Museum is just across the road. Barter Books is set in a listed Victorian Railway Station and is one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Britain. The area offers a wealth of welcoming pubs and restaurants, many of which enjoy spectacular views of the dramatic coastline. Alnwick provides the perfect, central base from where to visit the many other historic castles and treasures that dot the Northumbrian countryside. Beautiful, quiet beaches are within a few miles of Barbican View, and the surrounding coutryside is perfect for walking, golfing, birdwatching, painting cycling and more. |

A short drive to the west takes you to the heart of the Northumberland National Park, in the Cheviot Hills, and gives opportunity to visit several of the National Trust’s most impressive locations:- - Bamburgh Castle is a dramatic fortress towering above the fabulous Bamburgh beach. - Dunstanburgh Castle is a 14th century ruin, reached by a coastal footpath. Make a day of it with a walk along Embleton Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. - Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle are an absolute must, a short drive up the coast. - Cragside is a magnificent Victorian House and was the first place in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity.
